WFF believes solving global problems such as devastating childbirth injuries is done by supporting and developing local leaders like Dr. Itengré Ouédraogo. While working as Danja Fistula Center’s Chief Medical Officer, WFF helped Dr. Ouédraogo get his International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetric (FIGO) certification in obstetric fistula surgery. He left DFC after six years of dedicated service to help WFF launch programming in his home country of Burkina Faso. Founder Dr. Lewis Wall works closely with him to develop quality services.
Building Holistic Care
WFF partners with ARENA — the nonprofit Dr. Ouédraogo set up — to provide life-changing surgeries to women in Burkina Faso. We also partner with Fondation RAMA to provide holistic care and empowerment training.
In 2017, Dr. Ouédraogo moved back to Burkina Faso and began creating a foundation upon which to build quality services. With Dr. Wall’s guidance, Dr. Ouédraogo was able to host a one-week fistula camp before the year ended. Despite unforeseen challenges, he provided life-changing surgery to 20 women! Dr. Ouédraogo is now working to refine and develop services and plans to host three more fistula camps in 2018.
